I agree that is seems like when you just go back to the basics you get the best results. I have never found anything better then your standard crunches.

James-I have tried out many various sit up or core strengthening gadgets if you will. From my personal experience they are no more effective than a crunch or plank. If an individual finds a crunch challenging a physio ball or bosu ball is great for support of the lower back. I have a physio ball at home that works well for me during the aching moments. Of course as I always, these exercises work for me and people should seek out medical advice from the experts if they have any concerns. Great questions!

Great advice. I often see patients who are muscular but having back problems. They usually have not been too interested in core strengthening.

But for those just starting out, do you have any experience with one of the gadgets marketed to help people that can barely do one crunch? I don't.

Mark,
I appreciate your simple approach to this stuff. For a busy working mom, simple is good! Gotta go work on the abs now...

aw your little graphics are so cute. i want to put that little guy in my pocket.

its so true though. My clients are always asking what the best ab exercises (well, actually they ask how to spot reducde which i have to remind them is impossible) are, and its very anticlimactic when i say crunches.
